IALC: 30 years of international collaboration on arid land issues come to a close

At the May 24-26, 2021 conference, Addressing the Environmental Challenges of Arid Lands, the International Arid Lands Consortium (IALC) stated its intention to cease operations. In the words of Honorary Conference Chair and IALC Board Vice President Joe Hess, “we…pass the baton to other consortiums, government agencies, and universities to carry on this important endeavor that affects the well-being of all mankind and brings peace between nations.”

IALC worked for 30 years on international and interdisciplinary research, development, and demonstration projects. IALC sponsored faculty and student research and demonstration projects, educational programs, exchanges, workshops, conferences, and distance learning opportunities. Collectively, IALC’s research and development interests focused on improving the lives and environments for people living in arid and semi-arid regions. IALC is grateful for the participation of so many in its programs.
