Jordanian Princess meets with IALC, JNF to Discuss New Initiative

(18 August 1998)

Princess Sharifa Zein bint Nasser of Jordan had the opportunity to exchange ideas with IALC Board members this past July when the princess visited IALC offices in Washington, DC.

IALC Executive Vice President Dr. Don Hegwood, Washington representative Mr. Pat Mitchell, and JNF representative Alan Freedberg met with Nasser in order to coordinate the new initiative spearheaded by the IALC and the JNF: the IALC Center for Middle East Desert Policy Initiatives.

Jordan's participation in the IALC Center for Middle East Desert Policy Initiatives is crucial, because the IALC and the new center are focused exclusively on collaborative scientific efforts, specifically between the US and the Middle East. Princess Sharifa, an active proponent of sustainable desert development, is a natural "fit" for the center, not only because of Jordan's affiliate membership in the consortium, but also because of her years of experience in environmental advocacy.
