Developing a Web Resource on Soils and Land Management in Jordan
Investigators (most current known information)
Proposal Abstract
Information about soils and land management are not readily available in Jordan. A great many studies and research projects have been done but the results are published in reports, which are housed in offices. Print publications may be available in libraries. Electronic data, such as data available in the Jordan Soil and Climatic Information System (JOSCIS) are not available to projects that intend to make the data available to a broad audience. This project could not create interactive maps with data layers on our Website (http://alic.arid.arizona.edu/jordansoils/), but did develop useful maps and it presents 70 soil surveys and background on geomorphology and soil classification for land regions in Jordan. With this information and links to full-text studies, reference works, and manuals by ministries in Jordan and by international organizations, the website provides useful tools and teaching aids to faculty and researchers in Jordan. Since Internet access is not always reliable, the University of Arizona members prepared a CD-ROM with the complete Website and many full-text resources to distribute in Jordan expanding the project's outreach efforts.
Outcome
Jordan Soils and Land Management website http://alic.arid.arizona.edu/jordansoils/
