Final Report Abstract

The workshop "Arid Lands Management: Towards Ecological Sustainability" was held 19 - 24 June 1994 in Jerusalem and at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Sde Boker Campus. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign spearheaded the organization of this IALC-sponsored international workshop, which was hosted by the JNF in Israel.

The workshop was designed to establish benchmark evaluations of desertification work being conducted around the world and to create systems whereby access to that research can be improved.

Representatives came to the workshop from 17 different nations including China, India, Egypt, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Spain, France, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Australia, the United States, and Israel. An approximate participation of 250 persons included government officials, scientists, land managers, university professors, and media representatives.
